Lincoln Lofts

Julie and Jason Harper purchased the Lincoln Lofts, a formerly dilapidated building, in 2006, with the intention of developing chic urban loft rentals. With much needed financial help from the City, Madison County, the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency, and National Park Service, the Harpers created eleven lofts that are historic, but modern. Financial incentives utilized included City and County TIF funding and the National Historic Tax Credit.

The building phase took over a year, but when the units were finally ready in spring of 2008, 5 out of 11 were already pre-reserved. The original corridors and many original historical features were maintained. There is normally full occupancy and a waiting list for available units at the Lincoln Lofts.

The Lincoln Lofts are named after Abraham Lincoln because he and his family dined at the hotel during his historic debate with Stephen A. Douglas in 1858.
